The NSA Gallery will host an exhibition titled “Deaths and Entrances”, small watercolour paintings by Janet Solomon, a BA Fine Art graduate of Natal University.

While we’re accustomed to seeing watercolour devoted to landscape, still life or flower study – themes chosen to relax not challenge the viewer – Solomon has chosen this medium and small scale to investigate larger issues.

She uses the African beach, desert or veld to explore displacement and alienation of individuals in these changing times. She has drawn her inspiration from the Italian Primitives, painters like Giotto and Fra Angelico.
